Its plot, written by the filmmaker, presents Merche (played by Carmen Maura), about to turn 76, who is told that she doesn’t have long left to live. Determined to make her last wishes come true, she embarks the three best friends on some mischief, such as getting deliberately trapped in a department store at night and hiring a go-go dancer. One of her wishes is also to be able to see the sea for the last time. So, she invites her daughter Rocío (Olivia Molina) to visit the Canary Island of La Palma, but at the last minute Merche's health prevents her from making the trip.

They then receive the surprising news that an eccentric scientist (Sánchez-Gijón) has managed to transmute the soul of an elderly person into the corpse of a recently deceased person, for three days in order to fulfil any dream. Determined to share an unforgettable journey between mother and daughter, Merche's soul will enter the only available corpse: a 58-year-old Basque truck driver (Fernando Albizu) to set off on a crazy adventure. In the meantime, Merche's body will remain in place and well cared for, to be reintroduced on her return from La Palma.

In the words of Carmen Maura, "Mi otro Jon is in a different world, but everything is like life itself. I am also fortunate to enjoy this experience with Olivia Molina and a cast of extraordinary actors and above all to meet my new director, Paco Arango."

–which grossed two and a half million euros in Spain, according to ICAA data– and Los Rodríguez y el más allá, as well as aiming to entertain and raise awareness, the profits from Arango's fourth feature film will go towards improving the lives of children with cancer through the Aladina Foundation, which he chairs. Thanks to his previous films, Arango has been able to donate more than seven million euros. This time part of the proceeds will go to the island of La Palma, to help the victims of the recent tragic eruption of its volcano.

Mi otro Jon is produced by Calcón and Abuela Jon S.L., it will be distributed in Spain by Wanda Visión and  its internationalisation will be managed by Mexico's Cinépolis.
