After two years of challenges and experimental formats, GAIFF Pro, the industry platform of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival, is coming back to its initial, physical format. The event will run from 11-15 July and consists of a co-production market, mentoring and pitching sessions, workshops, and a wide variety of talks, panel discussions and master classes. GAIFF Pro is gearing up to welcome film professionals from various countries to the capital of Armenia, so that they can share their expertise with emerging local filmmakers and also those from the wider Western Asia region.

One of the first changes for this edition is being made to the co-production market of GAIFF Pro. The section was previously focused on the Lesser Caucasus region, and it has now been expanded to encompass Western Asia, including countries such as Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, among others. The selection includes 12 projects in development and four films at the work-in-progress stage. The selected projects will have one-on-one meetings and mentoring sessions with acclaimed producers, and will be competing for a $5,000 prize in each section of the market.

Furthermore, the teams behind ten Armenian projects will have a chance to participate in a project presentation and pitching workshop led by Jia Zhao and, later, use their newfound skills during the pitching session. Multiple prizes will be presented in this category as well. Along with the workshop for Armenian projects, GAIFF Pro will organise an international critics’ workshop conducted by Leonardo Goi, a columnist at MUBI Notebook, whose bylines also regularly appear on Senses of Cinema, The Film Stage, Reverse Shot and Film Comment. Selected participants will arrive in Yerevan from the four corners of the world, such as Malaysia, Mexico, Great Britain and other countries.

GAIFF Pro will also offer a rich programme for accredited professionals, film students and cinema enthusiasts. Panel discussions on the topic of programming and distribution, as well as master classes with acclaimed filmmakers, such as Albert Serra, Costa-Gavras and Philippe Bober, will form part of the programme.
