is the title of Estefanía Cortés' debut film, shot last autumn in the Aragonese Pyrenees, and a psychological drama that, according to its director, "focuses on the freedom to choose, and the harshness of facing life and death itself. In this film I wanted to give a voice to issues that are not usually made visible, such as mental disorders, abuse and euthanasia". Its main actors include Marta Nieto (acclaimed for her roles in Madre [+leggi anche:

"Edén came about from a story I read in the press years ago," the filmmaker continues. "I wanted to tell this story that addresses a key issue, the freedom to choose how to live, but from the point of view of very different characters". These roles were written by Cortés, as her script narrates how four strangers come to Edén, a clandestine company located in the middle of nature, to put an end to all the things that have been troubling them.

They are: Marina (played by Charlotte Vega), a young woman broken by guilt who turns to this centre to leave behind a tragic episode that marked her past; Félix (Ramón Barea), a sick man who is estranged from his loved ones and tries to help her, support her and encourage her to get her life back on track; Lidia (Marta Nieto) who, because of her past, wants the girl to find the path that she has been denied; and Victor (Israel Elejalde), for whom Eden is the only way to stop making others suffer.

For the producer Pedro de la Escalera (Montreux Entertainment) “this is a different film, because Estefanía’s vision of cinema is also different. And that is why my company, as well as the other companies involved, decided to support this very special production, because since we began we have wanted to work with people who heighten the artistic side of their creations, who take risks, who shun clichés, and who manage to move the audience. We want to find new perspectives, a free and independent cinema, that does not limit the creativity of the author".

A graduate in film directing from the Séptima Ars School in Madrid. Estefanía Cortés has been working in the script department for more than a decade on projects such as El Instante Decisivo (Atresmedia) and Otros Mundos and Porvenir (Movistar). She has written and directed the short films Moiré (2014), starring Inma Cuesta; Yerbabuena (2016) with Ingrid Rubio; and Miss Wamba, with Ruth Díaz. Her works have won awards at festivals such as Clermont-Ferrand (France), Nashville (USA), Guadalajara (Mexico), Zaragoza and Medina del Campo, among others.
