Written by Ronan Tronchot and Ludovic du Clary, the story revolves around Simon, an energetic priest wholly devoted to the parish under his care. But when Louise arrives with Aloé, his 11-year-old biological son whom he didn’t realise existed, his life as he knew it goes up in smoke. Fighting for an institution in crisis, and torn between his son and his flock, Simon struggles, ultimately questioning everything he’d held to be true… 

Produced by Charles Philippe and Lucile Ric on behalf of Les Films du Clan, Paternel has been shooting over a six-week period which kicked off on 17 January, in Auxerre (within the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region) and its surrounds, with Antoine Chevrier helming photography. Distribution in France will be managed by KMBO while international sales are steered by Germany’s Films Boutique.
