The Montreal New Cinema Festival has unveiled the selected projects for its new international co-production market, created on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the festival, which will be held on 6-8 October in parallel with the regular activities of the FNC and the FNC Forum.

The new market is the only co-production event in North America presenting fiction feature-length film and virtual reality projects in development. For its first year, it will offer the directors and producers of the 18 selected projects (12 fiction features and 6 virtual reality works) opportunities for networking and creative partnerships. The jury for the fiction projects consists of Caroline Habib (Sienna Films), Josh Penn (Department Motion Pictures) and Ryan Kampe (Visit FIlms), and will give out a prize of $25,000 CAD (about 16.500€) towards development help. The jury of the VR section is composed of Myriam Achard (PHI), Emily Page (E.D. Films) and Tamara Shogaolu (Ado Ado Pictures) who will give out a prize of $5,000 CAD (about 3.300€).

This first edition will take place online in collaboration with the Luxembourg City Film Festival and Rotterdam’s CineMart. The latter will also invite one of the VR works programmed to its 2022 edition. The final selection is the result of curation by Hayet Benkara (in charge of the new market), Anna Ciennik, Karim Aitouna (for the features) and Jolinde den Hass (VR). The projects chosen for this first edition are from North America, Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. This cohort, entirely egalitarian, also welcomes 4 first features, all directed by women.
