The Transilvania International Film Festival (23 July–1 August, Cluj-Napoca) has always been a promoter of Romanian cinema, but for its 20^th edition, the organisers seem poised to show an exhaustive map of the local film industry: as many as 32 features in the 170-title selection hail from Romania. Twelve features will be competing for the Romanian Days awards, including the FIPRESCI Award.

Two of the movies in the Romanian Days competition, Poppy Field and Unidentified, will be competing for the festival’s top award, the Transilvania Trophy, in the main competition.

Other local productions are getting an airing in other sidebars: Octavian Strunilă’s Perfect Strangers, the Romanian remake of Paolo Genovese’s superhit of the same title, will be screened in Unirii Square, together with a super-fresh documentary, Dan Dinu’s Wild Romania [+leggi anche:

scheda film], in the 3X3 sidebar, while Liviu Mărghidan comes back to TIFF with a rare Romanian children’s film (and also a rare sequel), The Sentries of the Delta. An HBO production, Iulia Rugină’s Ruxx will be shown in a new sidebar, called Serial Dealer, dedicated exclusively to TV shows.
