, director Lachezar Avramov and scriptwriter Dimitar Stoianovich are soon to present their second joint feature project, which promises to be a catchy comedy on politicians’ sins, however without being political. A co-production between Bulgarian companies PREMIERstudio and Samsara funded by the Bulgarian National Film Center, the film is currently in post-production while its local premiere date has been confirmed for 17 September.

The plot features a scandalous former Italian Prime Minister who arrives in Bulgaria in order to support the candidacy of a Bulgarian politician for a leading position at the European Parliament. The local host and his significantly younger wife invite the high-class guest in their mountain villa where, after a stormy night spiced up with naughty pleasures, an inconvenient corpse and some other compromising material, the wannabe of European politics will demonstrate what he is capable of just for the sake of saving his career.

"Yellow Oleander is a story of betrayal, greed, murder and impossible love, developing against the background of the absurd political situation in Bulgaria which, unfortunately, we are all so humbly accustomed to. Hence, the black comedy genre, in which tragic absurdity is a mandatory component, seemed to be the most suitable choice,” says director Lachezar Avramov.

Producer Nikolay Mutafchiev defines the project as “spectator-orientated, aimed at being understood by wider audiences, but in no way mundane. The prevailing tone is comic, while the viewers will be able to identify serious topics from real life that affect them on an everyday level.”
