After a year’s absence, the Cyprus Film Days International Festival is overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic and is returning to big screens for its 2021 edition. With a selection spanning three main programmes, the largest international film event in Cyprus will take place with the physical presence of the audience and in full compliance with all applicable measures, from 16-24 April, in its usual spots in the country’s two biggest cities: at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol and the Zena Palace Cinema in Nicosia. As at previous editions, the artistic part is managed by the a three-member artistic committee, consisting of film scholar Dr Costas Constantinides, director-producer Tonia Mishiali and director-producer Marios Stylianou.

The Glocal Images International Competition showcases works that represent international trends but still retain a degree of local character, and comprises ten feature films. They are 180 Degree Rule by Farnoosh Samadi (Iran), Ballad for a Pierced Heart [+leggi anche:

), Cypriot actress Kika Georgiou and Cypriot film composer George Kallis.

The non-competitive Viewfinder section will include five multi-award-winning films by both emerging and well-established directors that have previously been included on the festival circuit. by Magnus von Horn (Poland/Sweden). Finally, a special section dubbed A Year Without Cyprus Film Days will include four more films that will be having their Cypriot premieres during the gathering.

Furthermore, the second Dot.on.the.map Industry Days, the Cyprus Film Days’ industry platform, will be held entirely online (see the news). In addition, among the parallel events are five film workshops that will be held online, including “A Glimpse into Filmmaking” by director Marios Lizidis and “How Do I Become an Actor?” by Kika Georgiou. The Cyprus Film Days is co-organised by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Rialto Theatre in Limassol, under the auspices of the municipalities of Limassol and Nicosia.
