Taking place online this year, from 23-27 November, the industry sidebar of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, is still set to showcase a decent batch of Baltic and Finnish projects. The ones being presented in the International Works in Progress categories will compete for the Post Production Award from Helsinki-based post-production house Post Control (worth €10,000), while the Baltic Event Works in Progress Award will come with €3,000. These prizes are due to be handed out by jurors Isabel Ivars-Sancho, Ilaria Gomarasca and Nikolaj Nikitin.

Maria Ulfsak, project manager for Baltic Event Works in Progress, commented: “The projects in the Baltic Event Works in Progress selection this year are very different, from a €3 million historical adventure film to smaller, edgier and more experimental projects. This shows the rude health of the regional film industry: very different films are in production and post-production, and even though the virus has affected us all, the future looks bright. Hopefully, we can all meet in person in wintry Tallinn next year.”

The Baltic Event Works in Progress selection will welcome the sports drama Kalev [+leggi anche:

scheda film] by Ove Musting as well as Melchior The Apothecary, directed by Elmo Nüganen – taking place in medieval Tallinn, it will revolve around an apothecary who helps the sick but who also attempts to solve murders. The International Works in Progress section will host seven projects, starting with Shahar Rozen's Ducks, Urban Legend. The psychological drama The Anger, directed by Maria Ivanova Z, will be followed by Olesya Morgunets-Isaenko's first feature, Carol of the Bells, while Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada, from the Dominican Republic, will present A Film About Couples.

With Russia chosen as the country in focus, three projects from that nation will be joining the International Works in Progress line-up. They are Nuuccha, Vladimir Munkuev's first feature, First Snow by Nathalia Konchalovsky and Zemun by Eduard Zholnin.

For the second time, projects in the children’s and youth film category will also be given some attention, competing for the Just Film Award (to the tune of €1,000) intended to cover promotion and publicity costs. They include A Butterfly's Heart by Inesa Kurklietytė, Estonian helmer Jaak Kilmi's The Sleeping Beast [+leggi anche:

scheda film], This Is My Moment – a creative documentary by Lieven Corthouts – and New Wonder, directed by Alexandra Strelyanaya, another “Focus on Russia” representative.

Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event will take place online from 23-27 November 2020.
