We now know a few details about the journey awaiting the hotly anticipated new film by Fernando Trueba after its selection by the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Forgotten We’ll Be, the 100% Colombian production by the seasoned Madrilenian director, will have the honour of closing the Official Section of the 68th San Sebastián Film Festival, which is set to unspool from 18-26 September, although it will do so out of competition.

The film, starring Javier Cámara, is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Héctor Abad Faciolince, telling the story of his father, a doctor and human rights activist in the polarised and violent Medellín of the 1970s. The director’s brother, David Trueba, penned the screenplay based on the bestseller, which has sold more than 300,000 copies the world over. Colombia has already announced that the movie will represent the country in the Best Latin American Film category at the next edition of Spain’s Goya Awards.

In addition, the gathering will also play host to a Movistar Plus+ Gala screening of the internationally produced series Dime quién soy, based on the book of the same name by Julia Navarro, directed by Eduard Cortés and starring Irene Escolar.

The festival has also announced the members of the jury that will decide on the winners of the awards in the Official Competition Section. Italy’s Luca Guadagnino (who will also be attending to present his series We Are Who We Are [+leggi anche:

at the festival – see the news) will have the honour of chairing the jury, which also comprises Spanish producer Marisa Fernández Armenteros, Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco and Swedish costume designer Lena Mossum.

The event has therefore officially begun the countdown to its upcoming edition, which this year will be marked, of course, by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, extra measures are being taken, such as a reduction in the capacity of the venues, fewer screenings and films in general, the withdrawal of certain venues, the cancellation of social events such as parties and cocktail receptions, the use of online purchasing and ticket numbering, and red-carpet events that will take place without the presence of members of the public.
