The 14th edition of Ventana Sur, the Latin American market and forum co-organised by the Marché du Film and Argentina’s INCAA, will return to Buenos Aires for its annual in-person event from Monday 28 November to Friday 2 December.

Ventana Sur will aim to “shine a spotlight on the region’s films” with dedicated online and physical screenings, and to showcase works in progress and project presentations. The gathering promises to be an “all-in-one destination for content in all its forms, from fiction to series, animation, documentaries and video games”.

The official press release states that all activities, from screenings to the video library and the market, will be located in and around the Cinemark Puerto Madero Multiplex and the UCA complex in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires. The market will offer venues including tables and booths for the sales agents and meeting rooms for the participants. A series of conferences, round-tables and networking events will also be organised, including the Animation!, Blood Window, Las Maquinitas and SoloSerieS activities. A selection of European film screenings is also programmed during the event.

Moreover, this year’s edition will see the debut of Tinta Oscura, a competition offering a $25,000 cash prize for the best fantasy-film script. On 4 July, PROYECTA will launch an open call for first or second film projects in development seeking co-production between Europe and Latin America. PROYECTA is a joint initiative involving the Marché du Film and the San Sebastián Film Festival, and is endowed with a prize worth €5,000.

“After an online 2020 and hybrid 2021 edition, we are thrilled to be able to get back to business as usual in Buenos Aires. The Latin American market is ripe with creativity, and the independent financing and sales market is still incredibly fertile, making Ventana Sur an unmissable event for anyone in the content sales, production and distribution industry. With both a co-production forum and a TV arm in addition to its thriving film market, Ventana Sur is the ultimate all-in-one stop on your year-long festival and market circuit. We look forward to welcoming back longtime partners and greeting new participants,” said Ventana Sur’s co-director, Jérôme Paillard.

Ventana Sur unspooled digitally in 2020 and welcomed 2,500 participants. In 2021, the hybrid edition involved some 2,600 participants, and focused on works in progress and projects in development. In 2019, the last year before the COVID-19 outbreak, the event hosted 2,600 participants, including 425 non-Latin American professionals. On that occasion, 425 distributors, 70 festival programmers, 80 financiers and decision-makers, 1,100 producers, and 900 directors and writers met up to discuss and discover 359 films and projects.
