For ten months, from September 2022 to June 2023, and on a monthly basis, The House of Cinema (Palacinema), located in Locarno, will invite in turn one of the directors of the ten main Swiss film festivals to present an emblematic film from its programme to the Ticino audience. This will all be accompanied by a discussion with the audience that will allow the directors to make their festival known beyond the Alps. The selected festivals are: the Locarno Film Festival, the Nyon Visions du Réel festival, the Zurich Film Festival, the Soloturn Film Festival, the GIFF (Geneva International Film Festival), the NIFFF (Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival), the Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF), the International Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (the main Swiss film festival dedicated to short films), the Fantoche (Festival International du film d’animation) and Castellinaria - Festival del cinema giovane. An offer that brings forward the cinematic diversity that spans from fantasy to documentaries, including animated films and those dedicated to young people.

The goal of the initiative is to reinforce the connections between the various linguistic regions (especially the italophonic ones). The project is made possible thanks to the common effort of the RSI (Radio and Television of Italian Switzerland), the Ticino Film Commission, the Lake Maggiore and Valois tourism organisation and the Enjoy Arena  (PalaCinema).

The initiative was symbolically launched during the 75th edition of the Locarno Film Festival by Nadia Dresti, former head of Locarno Pro, at Locarno's PalaCinema, an institution whose Board of Directors she is now a member of. As Dresti emphasises, 10 Film Festivals@PalaCinema's aim is to allow the ten main Swiss film festivals to expand their visibility to the different linguistic and cultural areas of Switzerland, to strengthen their prestige on a national level by creating necessary synergies between the directors of the different events. Specifically, Dresti says: "By honouring festivals, we celebrate cinema and those who make it. The ten festivals chosen, each with its own specificity, are an excellent representation of the great world cinema offer and create moments of encounter and exchange for the film industry. They are also great aggregators of audiences without which they would have no reason to exist. Festivals remain a staple in the ever-evolving audiovisual world.”

Giona A Nazzaro, Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival, will inaugurate the series of monthly screenings on 15 September with a screening of Roberto Rossellini's Rome, Open City, screened in 1946 during the first Locarno Film Festival. This will be followed on 6 October by Ticinema, a programme of short films from Ticino suggested by John Canciani of the Internationale Kurzfilmtage in Winterthur, A Chiara [+lire aussi :
