The Kimolos International Film Festival is taking place for the fourth consecutive year on the scenic Cycladic Island of Kimolos, where this year’s edition will run from 13-20 June. A wide selection of feature films will be screened at various locations on the island, with admission remaining free of charge. The festival will open on Monday 13 June with the Iranian drama The Apple Day, directed by Mahmoud Ghaffari, which had its world premiere at the latest Berlinale, in the Generation Kplus section.

As for the official competition of the Kimolos IFF, six films are partaking and are all having their Greek premieres at the event, while some of them will have their European premieres as well. The selection has been curated by the festival’s artistic director, Manuel de Coco.

In detail, the selection includes The Eyes Below (France), the sophomore feature by French director Alexis Bruchon, which will enjoy its European premiere on Kimolos (where his debut feature was in competition last year), and the historical drama Sijou (India), directed by Vishal Chaliha, which will have its first screening in Europe during the festival. Furthermore, the selection includes the Quebecois drama Bootlegger, written and directed by Caroline Monnet (Canada), which was the opening film of Montreal’s Festival du nouveau cinema and was selected for the Göteborg Film Festival; Me & the Beasts (Venezuela), the debut feature by Venezuelan director Nico Manzano, which competed in Black Nights’ Rebels with a Cause strand last year; and the Irish drama Foscadh [+lire aussi :

, written and directed by Seán Breathnach, and the winner of Best Irish First Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh last year.

A five-member international jury will give out the Golden Tree and the Best Director Award, and said jury is headed by French-Algerian festival programmer Lynda Belkhiria, who has recently also been appointed as the manager of Cairo Film Connection, the co-production market of the Cairo International Film Festival. The other members of the jury comprise António Costa Valente, director of the AVANCA Film Festival in Portugal; Greek film producer Katia Pantazi; actress and director Korina Kontaksaki; and local director of photography Aristotelis Metaxas.

The festival will wrap its fourth edition on Monday 20 June with the closing film, the documentary Αwaken, directed by Tom Lowe (USA).

The Kimolos International Film Festival is being supported by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, and is organised by EIKONA AMKE and the Municipality of Kimolos, in partnership with the Region of South Aegean.
