Copenhagen-based REinvent International Sales will present of slew of films and series at Cannes’ Marché du Film, including the upcoming horror flick Dark Windows. Directed by Alex Herron, and starring Anna Bullard, Annie Hamilton (seen in Inventing Anna) and Rory Alexander, this Element Film AS production will see four teenagers dealing with the aftermath of a car crash. After one of their friends dies, they decide to stay at her grandparents’ summerhouse in the US countryside. But a masked man starts to punish them in the most horrific ways.

“Alex Herron has a passion for exploring the various faces of the horror genre, and with Dark Windows, he takes audiences on a ride of passion, loss, terror and horrific, unthinkable ways of seeking revenge,” teases the company, which also boarded Herron’s debut film. Leave, produced by Trollbound Entertainment, is about a young woman who tries to find her origins after being abandoned as an infant in a US cemetery.

“I am immensely proud of our Cannes line-up this year. We have a lot of exciting new content in our promo reel, which we look forward to presenting to buyers at Cannes – namely, our first physical promo reel screening,” says Helene Aurø, director of Sales and Marketing at the firm.

REinvent will organise closed market screenings of the drama-thriller Nothing and Pretty Young Thing [+lire aussi :

. In the former, based on Janne Teller’s bestselling novel, young people are confronted with the meaninglessness of life, as they embark on a journey away from the safety and innocence of childhood. Directed by Trine Piil and Seamus McNally (and produced by Film & Lydholm and Komplizen Film), the film will be released on 19 May.

Pretty Young Thing, from director Tilde Harkamp, will gather Denmark’s new talents, from Andrea Heick Gadeberg (Riders of Justice [+lire aussi :

). Produced for SF Studios by Marcella Dichmann, it shows high-school initiation rituals that determine the future of first-year students. In order to make their mark, they have to push their limits.

The company’s slate also includes Nils Gaup’s Norwegian action-drama The Riot [+lire aussi :

(Storyline Nor), set for release in 2023, and touching upon the origins of the labour movement and workers’ rights in the mining city of Sulis in the early 20th century. Love Proof, directed by Richard Hobert (a Fundament Film Gbg and Cimbria Film production), will focus on a couple on the verge of divorce, who meet one last time to empty their summer house, while the sci-fi adventure UFO Sweden, produced by film collective Crazy Pictures (see the news), will tell the story of a teenage rebel placed in foster care, who suspects that her father is not dead, but has been kidnapped by UFOs. It’s described by the collective as “a love child of The X-Files and Stranger Things”, set in 1990s Sweden.

, which won the Berlinale’s Crystal Bear for Best Film in the Generation Kplus section, is bound to generate tears and laughter in equal measure as a little girl fights through grief with the help of stand-up comedy.

Acclaimed director Erik Poppe is back with the period drama The Emigrants [+lire aussi :

– produced by SF Studios – with Gustaf Skarsgård and Sofia Helin starring, as well as pop star Tove Lo. He will focus on a mother who leaves poverty-stricken Sweden with her family in the 1850s, setting out on a long journey and hoping to find a better life in America. The film version of the story clocks in at 148 minutes, while the series will consist of three episodes, each 40-60 minutes long.

Finally, when it comes to series, REinvent will present SVT’s The Lost, created by Ulf Ryberg and produced by Unlimited Stories: the show is a Swedish thriller about a lorry driver who makes a fatal mistake. And then, in Evil, a reboot of the 2003 film Evil (see the news), a man initiates a forbidden relationship, but his violent background comes back to haunt him again. Created by Jan Guillou, and based on his bestselling novel, it’s being produced by SF Studios for TV4 and C More.
