The Spanish film The Good Boss [+lire aussi :

and the Argentinian series The Kingdom have emerged as the champions of the ninth edition of the Platino Awards for Ibero-American Film, co-organised by EGEDA (the Society for Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management) and FIPCA (the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers). The comedy by Fernando León de Aranoa (which previously triumphed at the Goyas – see the news – the Feroz Awards and the Forqués) picked up four statuettes: for Best Ibero-American Fiction Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor (Javier Bardem). Meanwhile, the Netflix-produced show scooped three prizes: Best Fiction Miniseries or TV Series, Best Creator of a Series (Marcelo Piñeyro and Claudia Piñeyro) and Best Supporting Actor (Joaquín Furriel).

During a ceremony held at Madrid’s IFEMA Palacio Municipal on Sunday 1 May, Spanish thesp Blanca Portillo accepted the Award for Best Actress for Maixabel [+lire aussi :

Javier Cámara was the recipient of another Platino Award (after winning Best Actor in a Film for Memories of My Father at the previous edition): thanks to his performance in Venga Juan [+lire aussi :

, he won Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Series. Daniela Ramírez, meanwhile, picked up the Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Series in recognition of her turn as Chilean author Isabel Allende in Isabel, and Spaniard Najwa Nimri snagged the statuette for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or TV Series for Money Heist.

The great Spanish thesp Carmen Maura was granted the Honorary Award at the ninth edition of the Platinos, the Brazilian flick The Last Forest by Luiz Bolognesi was deemed deserving of the Best Documentary Award, and Juan Pablo Félix’s Karnawal was handed the Best Feature Debut Award. Furthermore, the Best Animated Film Award was bestowed upon Peru’s Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon by José Zelada and Richard Claus.

Alberto Iglesias, who was Oscar-nominated for his soundtrack to Parallel Mothers, was rewarded with the Best Original Score Award, bringing his total haul of Platinos to five. For his part, Antxón Gómez, also a member of the crew on the latest film by Pedro Almodóvar, scooped the Award for Best Art Direction, thus topping off the night’s three prizes (including the one given to Aitana Sánchez-Gijón) for the El Deseo production.

Best Editing went to Germano de Oliveira, who worked on the Brazilian movie 7 Prisoners, while the Platino for Best Cinematography was picked up by Kiko de la Rica for the Spanish film Mediterráneo: The Law of the Sea [+lire aussi :

, and Best Sound Direction was granted to Akritchalerm Kalayanamitr for the Colombian-UK-US-Thai-Swiss-Mexican-French-German-Chinese-Taiwanese co-production Memoria [+lire aussi :

, helmed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

Finally, the Award for Film and Education Values, which was presented by Julissa Reynoso, the US ambassador to Spain (who also garnered a special recognition from the organisers for her efforts to promote the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda), was handed to Mexico’s Los lobos by Samuel Kishi.
