The shoot is now in full swing for La Última (lit. “The Last One”), the first original production by Disney+ Spain. The series is toplined by singer Aitana Ocaña, in her first acting role, and Miguel Bernardeau (world-famous for Elite). It will be a generational portrait about coming of age, the challenge of fighting your way to the top, love, dreams, empowerment, mutual understanding and friendship.

The main character in this youth-orientated story will be Candela (played by Aitana), a girl who works at a logistics company while chasing her dream of becoming a singer. Her life changes one night, when an executive from a record label hears her performing in a bar. That same night, she reunites with Diego (played by Bernardeau), a former secondary-school friend of hers who is an aspiring professional boxer.

Sofía Fábregas, vice-president of Original Production at Disney+ in Spain, states: “La Última feeds into the ambitious plans that the company has for original production in our country. We have assembled a solid creative and artistic team to tell a story that we know will connect with viewers, both in our country and in the rest of the world. […] Furthermore, being able to bank on the talents of Aitana and Miguel, both of whom are icons for their generation, boasting hugely prestigious achievements in their professional lives, is a real privilege that we are sure will elevate this series to a phenomenal level, with an incredible impact on the international stage.”

Aitana – the most-listened-to Spanish artist on Spotify in 2021, having racked up more than 100 million plays around the globe – asserts: “This will be the first project I will be part of as an actress; I feel very excited and really want to get stuck in. I’m going to give my all! I’m also very happy to be able to bring part of my musical world to the series, and to share this unique experience with a team of wonderful people.”

For his part, Valencian actor Miguel Bernardeau (the son of actress Ana Duato and producer Miguel Ángel Bernardeau, the founder of Grupo Ganga, and who appeared not long ago in Javier Marco’s film Josephine [+lire aussi :

, as well as in the series Everything Else by Abril Zamora) declared: “I feel proud to be part of this project and to be working with people whom I admire and respect. The universe that we’re creating has something special about it, and the team are slogging their guts out to make it truly spectacular.”
