It scooped Best Comedy, Best Screenplay (penned by its director, Fernando León de Aranoa) and Best Actor, for the incredible Javier Bardem, who came to Zaragoza to attend the gala ceremony (which was broadcast by YouTube) together with the team behind the film.

However, the indisputable star of the night was seasoned and charismatic thesp Petra Martínez, who was absolutely sublime when she accepted the Award for Best Lead Actress (for her turn in That Was Life [+lire aussi :

In addition to the trophies for series, which are detailed in the list below, it’s worth pointing out that the Best Director Award went to a clearly surprised Rodrigo Cortés (for his work on the musical Love Gets a Room [+lire aussi :

, a feature that makes a huge leap towards attaining equality for the transexual community – as does his subsequent work, My Emptiness and I, which has just been premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam.

This event, held in the Zaragoza Auditorium on 29 January, was attended by a plethora of well-known faces, such as directors Pilar Palomero (the big winner at the previous edition, with Schoolgirls [+lire aussi :

), Paula Ortiz, Abril Zamora, Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, as well as actors Inma Cuesta, Paco León, Pere Ponce and Candela Peña, among many others. Also present were a number of high-ranking officials, such as the Spanish Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta; the country’s Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz; and the head of the ICAA, Beatriz Navas.

In light of this, the president of the Association of Spanish Film Journalists, reporter María Guerra, pointed out in her speech: “This doesn’t happen every day, let alone at a film awards ceremony. Thank you for being here and demonstrating that the Spanish audiovisual industry is important to you, that you believe in its significance for the economy, employment and society, and that you have a solid and truly visible commitment to it – that you believe in culture in all its facets.”
