The MIA – Rome’s International Audiovisual Market is set to host the final presentation of the 9 projects resulting from TFL SeriesLab, an annual training programme organised by TorinoFilmLab and dedicated to the development of innovative, high profile, international TV series which has now reached its fifth edition under the leadership of Head of Studies Nicola Lusuardi.

Thanks to the support of qualified tutors and story editors, the programme has accompanied 20 European screenwriters, directors and producers through the entire creative process of developing a TV series concept, from initial idea form to the preparation of materials and on to the final pitching session, which will be held in the presence of leading figures from the international television industry at the MIA on Thursday 14 October, moderated by TFL Pitching Trainer Luigi Ventriglia.

“Each and every edition of SeriesLab reminds us of the beauty and excitement of unexpected encounters, with authors, producers and projects representing a wonderful array of human, aesthetic and cultural differences”, Lusuardi enthuses, “And the beauty of this particular meeting is the freedom that comes with being focused on nothing other than the project’s evolution and strength”.

The pitching session will be preceded, also on 14 October, by a panel discussion entitled “The Dream Team: Talents, Producers and Their Relationships”, organised by TorinoFilmLab, ACE Producers and the MIDPOINT Institute. The debate will focus on international training programmes, on how film talent and producers can meet, and on the differences in their relationships when it comes to series and films. Martichka Bozhilova (Agitrop) and Gabor Krigler (TV Launch, MIDPOINT Institute, Joyrider) will also take part in proceedings, alongside Nicola Lusuardi.

SeriesLab 2021 is organised with the support of the EU’s Creative Europe – MEDIA Subprogramme, in collaboration with VAF – Flanders’ Audiovisual Fund. Details on the various projects can be found in the Book of Projects (here). The call for submissions for the 2022 edition is open from 11 October 2021 to 6 January 2022 for screenwriters, directors and producers working on series projects in the early development stage.
