Like many others, the Noir in Festival is having to adapt to the times. As such, against the backdrop of the health crisis, the event is now blowing out its 30 candles online, in a bumper edition which is unspooling via the MYmovies platform, where it can be streamed free of charge via this link, as well as on the festival’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) and on the Noir in Festival website.

This long-standing event dedicated to the mystery genre in all its guises (film, literature, TV, new media), which is directed by Giorgio Gosetti, Marina Fabbri and Gianni Canova and which usually unfolds in Milan and Como, is offering up screenings, talks and masterclasses with directors and writers, all of which are unfolding entirely online on this occasion and are united by one crucial underlying theme: the rise of gifted women in the world of film noir. Authors along the lines of Gabriella Genisi, Margherita Oggero, Grazia Verasani, Rosa Teruzzi, Antonella Lattanzi, Francesca Serafini and Nicoletta Vallorani will all be making an appearance in the festival, taking part in a panel discussion on “women in noir”, one hundred years on from the birth of writer Patricia Highsmith.

In terms of the film programme, the International Competition jury composed of Carlo Degli Esposti, Camilla Filippi and Gianluca Maria Tavarelli will decide on the winner of the Black Panther Award from among six competing films: Spanish title Cross the Line [+lire aussi :

The Manetti Bros. will be the guests of honour at the awards ceremony of 12 March, offering a sneak peek of previously unreleased images from their hotly anticipated film Diabolik, while international names from the world of film noir and noir fiction jostling on the festival’s guest list include Australian director Jennifer Kent (The Nightingale); the winner of this year’s Raymond Chandler Award Irish filmmaker John Banville; the Scandinavian queen of giallo Camilla Läckberg; Japanese director Kurosawa Kiyoshi, who is set to receive the Honorary Award, and his American colleague Brian Yuzna, who will scoop the Luca Svizzeretto Prize.

The festival’s pre-opening day, for its part, which unfolded yesterday, Sunday 7 March, was dedicated to Italian film. It witnessed the revival of the poliziottesco genre in the name of Fernando Di Leo, by way of Gabriele Albanesi’s first work A Bunch of Bastards [+lire aussi :
