Penned in its entirety by the director, Settembre tells the story of 14-year-old Maria (the young Margherita Rebeggiani, who is already a star of the short film genre) who comes to the attention of Cristian, a boy she’s always had a crush on, following the school summer holidays. Via Sergio, the girl’s classmate, Cristian asks Maria if she’d like to go to bed with him. It’s an abrupt and unromantic proposition, but she straight away says yes, and then immediately slips into panic mode because she doesn’t know where to begin. When Sergio realises Maria is struggling, he offers to help her. They spend an entire afternoon together, discovering their compatibility for the very first time.

Settembre is produced by Matteo Rovere on behalf of Lynn - the newly formed division of Groenlandia which is dedicated to producing projects helmed exclusively by women, whether young authors or better established directors - together with RAI Cinema. Another title gracing the Lynn pipeline is Blackout Love, Francesca Marino’s first work starring Anna Foglietta, which is produced with the support of Amazon Studios and on which filming kicked off in mid-December. The new division is also developing Marta Bencich’s animated series YU.

“Whether it’s a question of action, drama or comedy, Groenlandia has always aimed to produce free and creative films in a spirit of inclusivity and linguistic experimentation”, insists Matteo Rovere who has worked with the company, founded together with director Sydney Sibilia, to produce I Can Quit Whenever I Want 2: Masterclass [+lire aussi :

, among other titles. “In order to achieve this goal, we need to commit ourselves in a concrete, dedicated fashion, using the sector’s full structure to support women directors and their points of view in order to enrich the wider film system. The fact that partners such as RAI Cinema and Amazon Studios immediately and passionately threw their weight behind the project is further helping us on our journey”.
