series of children’s films, is currently readying an adaptation of Thomas Mann’s unfinished 1954 novella Confessions of Felix Krull.

With a screenplay adapted by Daniel Kehlmann, the upcoming feature will centre on a young man of modest origins who doesn’t hesitate to leave his old life behind when he gets the opportunity to work as a liftboy in a luxury Parisian hotel. Taking advantage of the circumstances, he quickly gets promoted to the position of head waiter. When Felix meets the infatuated Marquis de Venosta, he soon agrees to swap identities with him, so as to enable the latter to be with the prostitute Zaza. Felix thus gives up his great love, prioritising his ambition. His skill in charming people and deceiving them ultimately leads him to the royal court in Lisbon, where he pulls off his greatest coup.

The new adaptation of the novel, which was previously turned into a feature film by Kurt Hoffmann in 1957 and into a television miniseries by Bernhard Sinkel in 1982, will star a variety of actors that are well known to German audiences. Jannis Niewöhner, the lead in the Timeless film trilogy, which is an adaptation of the book series penned by Kerstin Gier, will take on the lead role and star as Felix Krull, while David Kross (The Reader [+lire aussi :

) will play the Marquis de Venosta and Liv Lisa Fries (Babylon Berlin) will star as Zaza. The cast also includes Maria Furtwängler, Nicholas Ofczarek and Joachim Król.

The film is being produced by Markus Zimmer for Bavaria Filmproduktion and has been backed financially by the FFF Bayern, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF). Filming took place in studios in Bavaria, as well as on location in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Portugal, and wrapped at the beginning of August.

The German theatrical release, handled by Warner Bros Pictures Germany, is scheduled for 4 February 2021, and the world sales are being managed by Warner Bros Entertainment.
