The CEE Animation Forum, the leading pitching, financing and co-production event in Central and Eastern Europe dedicated to animation, traditionally held in the Czech Republic in parallel with the International Festival of Animated Films Anifilm, will take place online this year, from 6-8 October.

The main focus of the event is on the pitching of animated projects in development. A total of 28 projects will take part in the pitching competition, across four categories: short films, series/TV specials, feature films and the newly introduced XR section.

The highest number of projects – five each – come from Croatia and the Czech Republic. In both the shorts and series/TV specials categories, the gender balance tips over 50% in favour of women. With eight series projects by women directors, the ratio has reached a record of 80%. For the full list of projects, please scroll down.

The pitching projects will be competing for financial awards, free scholarships for the CEE Animation Workshop or Animation Sans Frontières training programmes, direct selections for prestigious European events such as Cartoon Forum, Cartoon Movie and Animation Production Days, or full accreditations offered by partner organisations such as Animarkt, Kids Kino Industry and others.

The juries deciding on the winners also vary between categories. For the shorts, the jury comprises UK producer Wendy Griffiths, German production manager Karsten Matern and Anna Zača, head of the Latvian Animation Association.

The series/TV specials jury consists of Stefan Pfaffle, deputy head of fiction and co-production for ZDF's children's channel KiKA; Michaela Sabolcakova, programme editor for Slovak national broadcaster RTVS; and Norwegian producer Nils Stokke.

The feature-film projects will be judged by Belgian producer Annemie Degryse, Polish producer Jakub Karwowski and Danish animated filmmaker Esben Toft Jakobsen.

Finally, the jury for the XR projects comprises director-producer Milivoj Popović and director Veljko Popović, of Croatia's Prime Render Studios, and Swiss producer Manu Weiss.

Once again, the CEE Animation Forum will include CEE Animation Talents, a showcase of the most successful recent animated films made by students or first-timers. The intention is to boost their promotion and find alternative distribution for them. This compilation, which is being screened at selected European animated film festivals to draw attention to new talents and bring them together with experienced international producers, includes Morten Tšinakov and Lucija Mrzljak's A Demonstration of Brilliance in Four Acts (Estonia/Croatia), Flóra Anna Buda's Entropia (Hungary), Michaela Mihalyi and David Štumpf's SH_T HAPPENS (Czech Republic/Slovakia/France), Sandra Jovanovska's Soma (Slovenia), Nora Štrbová's S P A C E S (Czech Republic) and Barbara Rupik's The Little Soul (Poland).
