Aimed at writers and creative producers (with previous experience in writing and harbouring an ambition to become creators/showrunners) without any particular project in development, MIDPOINT Writers' Room 2020 is one of the MIDPOINT institute’s side modules within the project-based TV Launch, and is launching its second edition.

Designed to hone specialised skills and impart practical knowledge about the organisation of a writers’ room, the programme for the upcoming edition, which will run in the second half of October, is being forced to run entirely online, as current pandemic developments will not permit the hosting of a physical event. The intensive creative work during the workshop will run on a special online platform. Furthermore, the original deadline for applications has now been postponed until Monday 14 September – you can find more information here.

Just like during the physical edition, the selected participants will indulge in lectures, plotting and writing training, and a simulation of a writers' room. The individual participants, entering the programme as talents looking to hone their craft and their writing skills, will become acquainted with the structure, hierarchy and processes involved in running in a writers’ room, from two different perspectives: that of a procedural and that of a serialised show.

Theoretical lectures and plotting exercises will also be offered alongside the simulation. By the time they graduate from the programme, the participants will have acquired knowledge and skills connected to the processes that are part and parcel of scripted series writing, such as creative teamwork, joint brainstorming, and creating or following one unified narrative voice and vision, as well as looking at the structure of a series episode itself.
