Rai Com, the sales branch of Italian pubcaster Rai, has reinforced the technology used on its already-existing virtual platform in order to enable continued international sales and to make up for the cancellation of various upcoming markets and festivals.

Before the world came to a standstill to deal with the emergency brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Rai Com launched the international sales of the Berlinale-awarded movie Hidden Away [+lire aussi :

The virtual screenings of titles on the slate are available to international buyers on Rai Com’s virtual market place: the International Sales Videolibrary. The digital platform-cum-workplace, which has already been tested for the annual "Screenings", is being upgraded and renovated in order to present the new releases online, since Rai Com’s Screenings event (originally due to take place from 25-28 March in Turin) has been postponed and will unspool in the same location from 7-11 October 2020, owing to the COVID-19 emergency. The platform gives all potential customers the chance to preview new films, TV shows, documentaries and performing-arts works, in addition to giving them the opportunity to screen Rai Com’s entire catalogue. Buyers can also book online appointments with the Rai Com sales teams from the various territories.

Among the new titles is the preview trailer for the long-awaited crime-detective TV show Commissario Ricciardi (6x100), based on Maurizio de Giovanni’s international bestsellers. In it, the detective’s “gift” of seeing the ghosts of murdered people and hearing their last thoughts helps him to solve crimes in the beautiful surroundings of 1930s-era Naples. A noir detective story about real-life experiences from the world of prisons is narrated in the TV show The Alligator (8x50): as a former prisoner, the protagonist, played by Matteo Martari, is obsessed with justice, and he feels much more comfortable in the underworld and living outside the law than he does among policemen and magistrates. The series is based on the bestselling novels by Massimo Carlotto.

Imma Tataranni, Deputy Prosecutor (12x50) is an unconventional detective TV show with a huge audience, portraying a brilliantly intelligent woman with a frank, direct and impulsive personality – sometimes overly so for the male-dominated world of the prosecutor’s office in Matera. The period drama Escape From Mafia (seasons 1 and 2) is back with a second season: after the incredible success of the first instalment, the second season tells the story of the Rizzo family during a different historical period: the Great Depression in the USA. Halfway between coming of age and dramedy, The Swan Company (24x50) is a colourful new series split across two seasons: seven talented young musicians, enrolled at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, are forced to grapple with life, rules and discipline.

Besides these series, a number of feature films are also on the line-up. After the successful sales and distribution of Hidden Away, the business model is expanding to encompass platforms and all forms of television, as the industry waits with bated breath for the theatrical market to restart worldwide, after the current interruption that has been forced upon it. Acclaimed movies being exhibited on linear TV include Volare [+lire aussi :
