: Enys Men (Cornish for “Stone Island”), an “ecosophical” horror film, will shoot in and around Cornwall this coming May. The story follows a woman alone on an island “crossed by ley lines and timelines”, who is accompanied only by a standing stone and is haunted by echoes of both the past and the future. Also promised in the plot is the presence of a rare flower growing on the remains of a mine, an engine house, turbulent weather and, in a very Bait-like touch, a pot of tea.

Producing the film is Denzil Monk for Bosena, alongside Johnny Fewings as executive producer. Film4 is co-financing, with executive Lauren Dark overseeing late-stage development and production. Further support comes from the Sound Image Cinema Lab at Falmouth University, which has been involved in a number of Jenkin’s productions up to now.

Bait itself was a triumph in independent British cinema last year and performed brilliantly at the UK box office. Privately financed, black and white, and shot on a vintage 16mm film camera with hand-processed stock, the Cornish fishing village-set drama premiered in the Berlinale Forum before launching in UK cinemas in late August, where it has grossed £470,000 to date, and it is still screening around the country. Word of mouth and support on the festival circuit helped the film to secure two BAFTA nominations for Outstanding British Film and Outstanding British Debut. It also garnered awards at the British Independent Film Awards, New Horizons Film Festival and IndieLisboa.
