Production has commenced on the thriller Black Medicine. Written and directed by Colum Eastwood, the movie’s shoot will take place in Northern Ireland for three weeks. The director’s first feature has been developed under the aegis of Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus scheme. The film is being financed by Northern Ireland Screen and post-production house Yellowmoon.

The fast-paced thriller is the first feature produced by Janine Cobain. With a background in business and finance, she has previously produced shorts funded by Northern Ireland Screen, RTE and the BBC. 23ten’s Martin Brennan is executive-producing.

In Black Medicine, Jo is a medic who carries out illegal operations for the criminal underworld. She is placed in a dilemma when she has to give refuge to a young girl and must choose between breaking her medical oath and incurring the wrath of her criminal employers.

Black Medicine is London Film School graduate Eastwood’s first feature. His short Here was awarded Best Student Short Film at the Palm Springs ShortFest in 2014. His most recent short, the supernatural horror The Morrigan, played at the London Short Film Festival.

Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Focus scheme aims to deliver one debut feature by a Northern Ireland-resident creative team (writer, director and producer) each year. Other films to have come through the New Talent Focus scheme include Shelly Love’s A Bump Along the Way [+lire aussi :
