The dok.incubator international rough-cut workshop has once again been scouting out talents and providing filmmakers with intensive training. Said training does not entail only editing, but also distribution, communication and marketing strategies, under the guidance of experienced film experts. The first workshop of the eighth edition of dok.incubator took place in Slovakia and revolved around storytelling, the project’s topic and character building. The second session will take place from 23-26 June in the Czech Republic, where participants will receive feedback from a first test audience, while international sales agents, festival representatives and broadcasters will help the participants with the preparation of their distribution and marketing strategies.

“dok.incubator has proven to be an invaluable resource for fresh talent and surprising, unconventional storytelling approaches. The hands-on approach of its tutors and mentors helps cultivate some of the most exciting non-fiction stories out there,” says Harry Vaughn, a programmer at the Sundance Film Festival, who will be visiting the workshop.

The selection for the eighth edition consists of several Slovak and Czech documentary projects. In co-production with Czech outfit Cinepoint, Slovakia’s PubRes is producing On Your Marks!, a project directed by Mária Pinčíková. The documentary follows the 16th All Sokol Slet, a gathering of people performing mass gymnastics exercises, in July 2018. On Your Marks! is a reflection of the actual state of the Sokol movement and its importance in history. Meanwhile, Czech documentarian Jindřich Andrš maps out the current phenomenon of career transformation in A New Shift [+lire aussi :

, as a sacked miner gets himself reskilled in order to become a developer at a tech company. Producer Alice Tabery, of Cinepoint, is readying another project, Jan Jedlicka: Colourful Traces of a Landscape. Petr Záruba is attached to direct this Czech-Italian co-production about the titular Czech-Swiss artist. . Zuzana Kučerová, of Frame Films, is staging Martin Páv’s Wolves on the Borders!, which utilises the controversial real-life situation of the reintroduction of wolves to the Czech countryside in order to recount a broader tale of humankind’s ambivalent relationship with nature. Two Roads, directed by Radovan Síbrt, asks the question, “What would you do with your life if you knew you had a much shorter time ahead of you than you thought?” and finds the answer among the members of a music group consisting of people with physical disabilities. by Maia Martiniak, which broaches the issue of women’s rights violations during childbirth. Martiniak follows Stella, who decides to sue a hospital after enduring disrespect, manipulation and violence. Slovakian filmmaker Diana Fabiánová attempts to glean an understanding of how infidelity changes depending on social structure and religion, as well as exploring the central theme of infidelity in the present day, in her latest project, Happily (Un)Faithful, produced by Mike Chamberlain, of UK company Tearaway Films Limited. Finally, Yours Sincerely, Social System by Slovakian director Martin Tokár is billed as an absurd comedy and social documentary about an African who is helping local people in Slovakia to understand the social system. It is being produced by Jakub Viktorin, of nutprodukcia.
