The Film Centre of Montenegro, the country's main film body, has officially announced the creation of its first cash rebate scheme for qualifying production expenditure. The incentive is offered to foreign producers who intend to shoot audiovisual productions in Montenegro and can cover up to 25% of the eligible production spend.

Cash rebates can be granted to a film producer, a co-producer or a production company that performs a service, provided that the funds spent on the making of an audiovisual production in Montenegro are not provided from the budget of Montenegro or the Film Centre, its minimum budget is €100,000, all taxes and fiscal obligations prescribed by law have been settled between the parties, there are no bankruptcy or liquidation proceedings against the producer, and the eligible producer or co-producer has worked on at least one previously released feature-length film.

Formats eligible for support are fiction films, documentaries, TV series and TV films. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of the production's cultural value, the employment of local film crew and talents, and the use of Montenegrin production facilities.

The Film Centre of Montenegro, currently headed up by former producer Sehad Čekić, was one of the last national film bodies founded in Europe, established in December 2016. This provision has been approved by the organisation's board in the hope of making Montenegro an attractive film destination for foreign audiovisual productions in the future. Over the last few years, the country has hosted shoots for international productions such as Chin Ka-lok's Golden Job (2018), Michael Noer's Papillon [+lire aussi :
