The Federation of European Screen Directors (FERA), in partnership with Cineuropa, organised a panel discussion on the evolution of European film culture.

The conference, held on October 6, 2020, explored what it means to be a European filmmaker in 2020: from pioneering stylistic and technological innovators, to motion picture miracle-workers?

European filmmakers are struggling to secure longer shooting time and to increase resources needed as production restarts in the shadow of COVID-19. We all know there has been no fat on budgets and schedules for some time already. The panellist tried to answer to several questions related to the work of audiovisual director during these difficult times.

The webinar featured an opening keynote by Norwegian director, screenwriter, actress and former FERA Honorary President Liv Ullmann, and the participation by French director Renaud Bertrand, Spanish director, FERA Ambassador and Europa Distribution president Isabel Coixet, Slovenian director and FERA Chair of the board Klemen Dvornik, British director James Hawes and Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska, under the moderation by British director and FERA board member Bill Anderson and Danish director and FERA board member Birgitte Stærmose.
