The BET+ Original title Stolen has just entered pre-production. The action-thriller feature follows Seline, who must use her military skills to unearth the truth about her daughter’s disappearance in South Africa as she is thrown into a world of chaos and organ trafficking. The project is set to be the first instalment in a new movie franchise.

With Sheridan De Myers (the soap opera EastEnders, The Weekend) at the helm, the feature will star Christine Adams in the lead role, alongside Luka Peros, Jimmy Jean Louis, Michael Landes, Alba Amira and Shantelle Rochester (also serving as the producer for UK outfit Ida Rose).

Furthermore, Stolen received a grant through the International Co-production strand of the BFI’s UK Global Screen Fund. Ida Rose has also received support through the International Business Development strand of the same fund. Ida Rose’s CEO, Shantelle Rochester, is also a Breakthrough Leaders and Inside Pictures 2022 participant as well as the only person to date to have been awarded both BFI grants in the same year.

Speaking about the project, Rochester said: “This film is a perfect fit for Ida Rose and will begin to move independent genre films to another level, as there needs to be more from the UK and Africa. Being able to create diverse content is a pleasure, and I am delighted that all companies involved supported us.”

Commenting on the international distribution deal sealed with Big Media, Denitsa Yordanova, head of the UK Global Screen Fund at the BFI, said: “It is fantastic to see Ida Rose securing new global partnerships and striking an international distribution deal with Big Media on these scripted projects. The UK Global Screen Fund is proud to support independent companies with international ambitions, including backing international co-productions with strong export potential. I look forward to following Stolen on its journey into the marketplace as it reaches new audiences around the world.”

The deal was brokered by Emma Sparks and Danny Wilk, respectively executive and president of US-based Big Media, and Marvin Neil, vice-president of Content Programming and Strategy at BET+, along with Karl Hilbrick from Infilmpact, who helped the British outfit ink the deal. Wilk commented: “This relationship combines each company’s strengths, and this move into scripted is something we’ve been working on for some time. It’s a great way to kick off 2022.”

Stolen is a British-South African co-production by Shantelle Rochester for Ida Rose and Uzanenkosi Mahlangu for ANTS Media. US-based associate producers Steven Adams and Dan Sheldon, of Alta Global Media, have come on board to package the project.
