director Lionel Baier explores the problem of light pollution along with accompanying issues such as consumerism and people's dependence on smartphone screens on a global journey from Switzerland, Poland and Norway to Guyana, and from Sudan to Japan. Produced by Agnieszka Ramu for Bande à Part Films, the film should be ready in spring 2024.

director Jérôme le Maire looks at how nomadic shepherd tribes in southern Morocco, who still live without electricity, deal with the construction of the world's largest solar power plant in their region over a period of five years. One of the shepherds is hired to be the plant's caretaker. The film, co-produced by Isabelle Truc for Belgium's Iota Production and Enrica Capra for France's Tag Film/Graffiti Doc, should be ready in June 2025.

, Lillak follows the titular teenage girl, who grew up in an eco-commune as the daughter of an activist. She struggles to cope with climate grief and guilt, torn between becoming an activist herself and finding her own life path through creativity. Lillak and Karolina Veetam are producing for Tiny Desk Productions, and the film is expected to be released in November 2024.

The Monsters by Manuel Abramovich

Berlinale Shorts winner and Visions du Réel regular Abramovich will invite a group of people, both children and adults, to take over the stage and explore their own personal biographies in order to imagine a new future together, exploring the idea of what a monster is in light of society's norms. Produced by Juan Pablo Labonia and the director through Buenos Aires- and Berlin-based Ruido, The Monsters should be finished by late 2023.

with another US-set film. In Bakersfield, California, a city ravaged by ecological disasters and poverty, six teenage girls held in the juvenile detention centre embark on a rehabilitation programme. For three months, they attempt to mend their lives by looking after a mistreated dog. The co-directors will film them over the course of the programme and after they get out. Jean-Laurent Csinidis and Nora Bertone are producing for Films de Force Majeure, and the release is set for 2024.

director asks questions about what makes us human by combining brain research with dance performance, in a film shot in seven countries that is a follow-up, of sorts, to his 2017 documentary A Sense of Beauty. Co-produced by Enzo Porcelli and Tina Boillat for Aura Film, and Martina Latini for Ameuropa International, with Swiss broadcaster RSI and RAI Cinema also on board, it is expected to be released next year.
