The European Film Awards have announced the nominations for the award category European Short Film 2021. The short film programme is organised by the European Film Academy in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a candidacy in the short film category of the European Film Awards. The final five short films were nominated from the final list by the participating festivals (this year's come from (VIENNA SHORTS – International Short Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival and Sarajevo Film Festival). The more than 4,100 members of the European Film Academy – film professionals from all over Europe – will vote for the overall winner that will be presented at the 34th European Film Awards Ceremony.
The European Short Film nominees are:
Bella - Thelyia Petraki (Greece)
Displaced - Samir Karahoda (Kosovo)
Easter Eggs - Nicolas Keppens (Belgium/France/Netherlands)
In Flow of Words - Eliane Esther Bots (Netherlands)
My Uncle Tudor - Olga Lucovnicova (Belgium/Portugal/Hungary/Moldova)
Furthermore, the European Film Academy is honouring the British director Steve McQueen with the Award for Innovative Storytelling for his outstanding film collection Small Axe (Mangrove [+lee también:
ficha de la película], Lovers Rock, Red, White and Blue, Alex Wheatle and Education), in the words of the academy, "an anthology of a multi-faceted history which has never been given the attention it deserves." The Academy has introduced this new category in 2020 to reflect the changes in the cinematic landscape and to celebrate the great innovative achievements in European storytelling.
