The fourth Arte France Cinéma selection committee for 2021 (steered by Olivier Père) has chosen to become involved in co-production and pre-buying on four projects. Standing out amongst them is La chimera, the 4th feature film from Italian director Alice Rohrwacher after three films which were all presented in Cannes: Corpo celeste [+lee también:

(winner of the Best Screenplay award in 2018). Set in the 1980s, the story will follow Arthur, who returns to a small seaside village by the Tyrrhenian Sea. He is a hunter of Etruscan remains, an illegal activity he practices with a group of merry bandits. Arthur has a gift: he can feel emptiness. An emptiness that was left inside him by the memory of his lost love, Beniamina… Production is handled by Tempesta (Italy) with Ad Vitam Production (France) and Amka Films (Switzerland).

Arte France Cinéma has also selected La Lune crevée, which will be the 29th fiction feature film by Philippe Garrel, who was selected six times in competition at the Venice Film Festival (winning the Silver Lion in 1991 and 2005), once in Berlin (with The Salt of Tears [+lee también:

in 2017). His new film will gather for the first time on screen his three children: Louis, Esther and Léna Garrel. Written by the director together with Jean-Claude Carrière, Arlette Langmann and Caroline Deruas, the script follows the romantic and tragic destiny of siblings working as puppeteer artists. The project is handled by Rectangle Productions (France) with Close Up Films (Switzerland).

Arte France Cinéma will also support L’effacement, the second feature film from Karim Moussaoui, who was revealed in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2017 with Until The Birds Return [+lee también:

(which also won the 2018 Best First Film Lumière award). Freely adapted by the director together with Maud Ameline from the eponymous novel by Samir Toumi, the story offers a point of view on the alienation of a young adult within an Algiers bourgeois family, and his fight to make it through. A feature film produced by Les Films Pelléas (France) with Niko Film (Germany) and Prolégomènes (Algeria).

Finally, Arte France Cinéma will support Le retour de Saturne from Spanish director Jonas Trueba (The August Virgin [+lee también:

), co-written with Fernando Navarro and centred on the iconic Andalusian rock band of the 1990s: Los Planetas. Student and music lover Mario befriends the members of this band he admires and finds himself playing an unexpected part in their rise to success… La production is handled by Capricci Films (France) and La Terraza Films (Spain).
