, a movie selected for Locarno).

The film explores the close friendship between two thirteen-year-old boys, Leo and Remi, which is suddenly thrown into disarray by their transition towards adolescence. Trying to understand what has gone wrong Leo seeks comfort and grows closer to Remi’s mother, Sophie. A journey of forgiveness, vulnerability and love ensues.

Lukas Dhont has once again joined forces with co-screenwriter Angelo Tijssens, as well as numerous other team members from his first film.

Close is produced by the director’s brother Michiel Dhont on behalf of Menuet, in co-production with Diaphana Films (France), Topkapi Films (the Netherlands) and Versus Production (Belgium), with the support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (Belgium), the Federal Belgian Government’s Tax Shelter initiative, Eurimages, the Dutch Film Fund (the Netherlands), the Wallonia-Brussels Federation Film and Audiovisual Centre (Belgium), VTM and RTBF.

The film will be distributed in Benelux by Lumière and in France by Diaphana, with international sales in the hands of The Match Factory.
