Written by the director, the story centres around Stéphane who works in a canning factory and who gets back in touch with the father she never knew: Serge. She discovers an incredibly rich man holed up in his immense home and surrounded by the women in his life, who try to undermine her. Stéphane invents a whole other life for herself in order to impress them. Jealousy and bitterness begin to break up the family. The evil begins to spread…

The Origin of Evil is produced by Caroline Bonmarchand (the filmmaker’s trusted associate) on behalf of Avenue B Productions and is co-produced by Canadian firm micro_scope. Pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film benefits from an advance on receipts from the CNC, as well as the support of the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Pays de la Loire regions (where filming will proceed until 15 April), and of the SOFICA companies Cofinova, Cinécap and Cinéaxe. Distribution in France will be managed by The Jokers with international sales in the hands of Charades.
