Filming began on 12 November, in Sassari’s former San Sebastiano prison, on Leonardo Di Costanzo’s third feature film Dall’interno.

Written by Di Costanzo alongside Bruno Oliviero and Valia Santella, the title will see Silvio Orlando and Toni Servillo play starring roles together, for the very first time, flanked by professional actors such as Fabrizio Ferracane (Silver Ribbon for The Traitor [+lee también:

The synopsis shared by the production company is succinct, to say the least: in a prison in the process of decommission, a handful of officers and the last remaining inmates await transfer to a different jail. Over time, the written and unwritten rules in place seem to lose all meaning, and this community of men in limbo takes on a new and fragile form.

Born in Ischia and now living in Naples, Leonardo Di Costanzo had directed a number of documentaries and claimed several trophies at some of the biggest international festivals before going on to helm feature films The Interval [+lee también:

(Cannes’ 2017 Directors’ Fortnight line-up) in league with production company Tempesta. Luca Bigazzi signs his name to the present film’s photography, whilst editing comes courtesy of Carlotta Cristiani, sound is by Xavier Lavorel, set design is that of Luca Servino and costumes are credited to Florence Emir.

Dall’interno is likewise produced by Tempesta, together with Rai Cinema, in co-production with Amka Film Productions (Switerland) and RSI Radiotelevisione Svizzera / SRG SSR. The film enjoys the support of MiBact’s Film Department, the Swiss Federal Bureau for Culture (UFC), Eurimages and the Sardegna Film Commission. “Starting work on a film in times such as these is also something of a gesture”, explains Tempesta producer Carlo Cresto-Dina. “We’re all feeling the need ‘to move forwards’ to prove to others and to ourselves that it can be done”. On set, the production team are adhering to the EcoMuvi protocol which endows audiovisual productions with European certification of their sustainable approach. Dall’interno will be distributed by Vision Distribution both in Italy and abroad.
