Bearing the motto, “The enemy of art is the absence of limitations,” Less Is More (LIM), the European platform for the project development of limited-budget feature films, has wrapped its second workshop for the 2020 edition, which took on a hybrid format.

Due to the limitations imposed, the LIM2020 Showcase, the event where all 16 participants in this edition presented their projects to the film-industry guests, was also held in both a physical and a digital format. Hosted by LIM’s artistic director, Antoine Le Bos, the Showcase Event became one of the first international events for filmmakers and producers in Europe to be held live, not far from Le Groupe Ouest’s headquarters on the deserted beaches of the northern coast of Finistère in Brittany, France.

After adhering to LIM’s methodology, the 20 writers and filmmakers partaking in LIM2020 have now matured the in-depth development process for their future feature-length scripts sufficiently in order to meet the outside world, get feedback and take the first steps on the road to potential collaboration. This follows six months of intense online workshops and meetings with their tutors/consultants, who were Pierre Hodgson, Răzvan Rădulescu, Séverine Cornamusaz and Ralitza Petrova.

Representing 16 projects (which are first, second or third feature films), the 20 filmmakers hailing from all over Europe and abroad were introduced to 30 independent producers and sales agents who attended the event physically. After the Showcase, which can also be watched on demand, the film professionals and the participants in attendance had a series of one-to-one meetings. For those who could not be present in Brittany, the online option was preferred.

Also, LIM is launching the call for LIM2021, where the next 16 promising projects will be selected to participate in the development workshops. According to the original plan, three one-week workshops between March and October 2021 – two residential ones and one online one – will be organised, as well as a tailor-made Showcase Event. It is hoped that there won’t be a need for further limitations owing to the pandemic. The deadline for applications is Sunday 18 October, and all of the details can be found here.
