Young Danish filmmaker Kasper Møller Jensen is currently developing a new 6x30 TV series, entitled Nordland ’99. Møller Jensen debuted as a director with his short Resort in 2016, and one of his latter films, November (2018), was nominated for the Best Short Award at the Roberts last year.

The script of Nordland ’99 is being penned by the director himself in tandem with writer Jacob Katz Hansen (the TV series Ragnarok [+lee también:

and Anton 90), and promises to be a mysterious and suspenseful coming-of-age series set in a small Danish suburban area in 1999. The story revolves around a group of high-school friends who embark on a hazardous journey to find their missing friend. Speaking about the project, Møller Jensen disclosed to Cineuropa: “Imagine that Stephen King wrote the children’s books about The Famous Five and that they were to be adapted for the screen by the Coen brothers – that’s Nordland ’99.” Møller Jensen added that shooting will possibly take place next spring, but this may change due to the unpredictable times we are currently living in. A pilot episode has already been filmed, and starred actors Elias Budde Christensen, Sandra Guldberg Kampp and Troels Lyby in the lead roles, but the main cast is yet to be finalised.

The director of photography attached to the project is Jonas Blond. The series is being produced by Anni Faurbye Fernandez (the TV series Wisting and Yes No Maybe) for Danish-Swedish firm Nevis Productions. This week, Faurbye Fernandez, alongside her former Cinenord colleagues Moa Westeson and Cindy Hanson, announced the creation of the new outfit, based in Stockholm and Copenhagen, and backed by London’s Nevision. Their slate of productions in development includes the Swedish dramedy Neighbourhood Watch and the English-language geo-political medical drama series Wake.
