Billed as a “Serbian vampire tale”, it is a modern twist on the myth with Tomović playing Arnaut, a man who, after witnessing a crime in London and looking for a place to hide, is offered a job by charming yet ruthless local Vesna (Gorica Regodić, from Next to Me [+lee también:

He soon starts to have nightmarish visions and is frequently visited by the mysterious older woman Baba Draga (legend of Yugoslav cinema Eva Ras), who guides Arnaut into the darkness. star Judith Georgi round off the cast.

“Our film is inspired by the real vampire cases that occurred in Serbia in the early 1700s. Those were the origins of vampires. Though Vampir is set in modern times, it’s based on those myths, superstitions and folk elements,” says Tomović, who also penned the script.

Vampir will be filmed in the English language on location in Serbia this summer. The start of principal photography is currently set for June. Jean-Louis Alexandre, of the UK's Red Marked Films, Dina Vickermann, of Germany's Vickermann Films, and Serbia's Miloš Z Vučković are on board as producers. Award-winning composer Mark Ashworth (ABCs of Death, Entity) will create an original score for the film.

Although this is his feature-length debut as a director, Tomović previously helmed the acclaimed shorts Red and The Smell of Petrol.
