The new division of the long-standing Italian audiovisual production company Palomar, founded by Carlo Degli Esposti, which sold a 72% majority stake to French firm Mediawan last year, will be named Palomar Doc and will leap into action as of March 2020. Palomar Doc will oversee the development and production of documentary films and series, both for cinema and TV, “paying particular attention to the new markets opened up by OTT services and with the aim of uncovering and promoting new talent hailing from the Italian and European landscape”, as one statement explains.

Heading up the new division in the role of Creative Producer, we find Andrea Romeo, who has worked in the documentary world for over a decade. A founder of the Italian documentary festival Biografilm, and its director from 2005 to 2019, Romeo has been involved in cinematic distribution, in league with I Wonder Pictures, since 2015, bringing many acclaimed documentaries across Italy’s borders, such as the Oscar winners Searching for Sugar Man [+lee también:

by Laura Poitras, and shining a light on young talent such as Joshua Oppenheimer, Petra Costa and Roberto Minervini, not to mention distributing masters such as Werner Herzog, Frederick Wiseman and Patricio Guzman.

“I believe that Andrea Romeo”, announced Palomar General Manager Nicola Serra, “will play a key role in developing this particular area of the business thanks to his experience, skills and vision. He will work in collaboration with Palomar’s management and we have no doubt that the documentary genre, which already boasts a strong presence in Palomar’s productive DNA, will offer us an additional stream of excellent results”.
