The Antalya Film Forum has wrapped its sixth edition by handing out awards to some of the projects that participated in its four different categories, with the financial support it provided totalling 530,000 Turkish lira (€83,200). Running for three days, from 28-30 October, the industry event of the 56th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, directed for the first time by Olena Yershova Yıldız, included a series of discussions, master classes and tailored one-on-one meetings with specialist consultants, plus a slew of other activities focused on both the Turkish and the international market.

A total of 29 projects participated in this year’s edition of the Antalya Film Forum, and more than 200 Turkish and international film professionals attended the event. Starting with the Feature Film Pitching session, the winners were picked by Kirstin Niehuus, managing director of the Film Funding department of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg; French producer Michèle Halberstadt; Turkish film director Mustafa Kara; Turkish film producer Mehmet Altıoklar; and TrustNordisk executive sales manager Nicolai Korsgaard. The jury split the prize totalling 90,000 TL (€14,100) among three projects, which received 30,000 TL in cash apiece.

Penny Bank is the debut project by Ferit Karol, and in it, he tries to explore how Orhan, a down-to-earth family man, came to kill his comatose mother. The project, which was last year presented at the Istanbul Film Festival’s Meetings on the Bridge (see the news) and Batumi’s Alternative Wave (see the news), is being produced by Nefes Polat (Nefes Film).

Summer of 95 by İnan Temelkuran (Bornova Bornova) follows 20-year-old Çağdaş, who is spending his holidays at his parents’ summerhouse in a small coastal town. He meets Ebru, who is camping with her relatives, and their friendship soon blossoms into love. However, at the same time, the local community, which is made up of both campers and permanent residents, will be embroiled in a cultural conflict. Produced by Kerem Özerdoğan (Mental Film) and Yeşim Çıtak, the project also picked up the Cannes Film Festival Producers Network Accreditation Award.

Those Who Whistle After Dark by Pınar Yorgancıoğlu is a debut feature. As Melih enjoys his long-awaited retirement, his midlife crisis spirals into an epic existential one after he meets a grumpy angel and sees his family drifting away. His wife tries to promote the family to a higher social stratum, and their daughter continues to map out her challenging future. The project is being produced by Bekir Yusuf Açıksöz and Sarah Seulki (Ikinciyeni Film). Also, Cemal by Mehmet Emin Timur, produced by Faruk Korkmaz (Anima Production), received the Color Up Award.

In the Fiction Works in Progress category, seven projects went head to head for the main 80,000 TL (€12,500) award, and the jury comprising Frédéric Boyer, Remi Burah, İlksen Başarır, Michal Myslinksi and Thorsten Ritter eventually plumped for The List of Those Who Love Me by Emre Erdoğdu. The story follows Yilmaz, a known drug dealer whose clientele includes celebrities in the hip Istanbul neighbourhood of Cihangir. When the police start to ramp up their raids, he will lose his sources of income, and at the same time, his state of mind will verge on paranoia as his desire to be loved intensifies. The film is being produced by the director together with Tanay Abbasoğlu, Hazar Ergüçlü and Beste Yamalıoğlu (TN Production).

The 40,000 TL (€6,250) award in the same category was bestowed upon Nisan Dağ’s debut feature, When I’m Done Dying [+lee también:
