Created in 2013 to stimulate artistic and technical co-productions on Franco-Italian feature films (which tended to limit themselves to purely financial associations authorised by the co-production treaty signed by the two countries), the bilateral development fund controlled by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC) and by CNC, takes on a new dimension unveiled yesterday on the Lido, on the occasion of the 76th Venice International Film Festival, by Mario Turetta (managing director for cinema and the audiovisual at MiBAC) and Olivier Henrard (CNC deputy managing director), with minister Alberto Bonisoli present.

The new structure doubles the size of the fund, which rises to €1M per year; opens a new specific section called “help for co-production” which will allow to follow projects at a more advanced stage, with the possibility to grant bigger sums (up to €200,000); and widens the help for the development of TV series. These measures aim to develop artistic cooperation in order to encourage ambitious Franco-Italian co-productions with potential on international markets.

The first call for proposals for this new fund will be launched on Thursday 12 September, the deadline for applications being fixed to Thursday 31 October.
