The 44^th Toronto International Film Festival (5-15 September) has announced the full line-up of the Discovery programme, which this year is changing and includes 37 films from up-and-coming filmmakers from all around the globe.

Cameron Bailey, TIFF’s co-head and artistic director, said about the selection: “This is where you want to look for the next decades’ masters, and it’s great to see long time TIFF programming associate Dorota Lech shaping the section as Discovery’s Lead Programmer.”

Lech, who a couple of months ago took over the curation of the Discovery programme, added: “I’m thrilled to be curating the Discovery programme, a showcase of films that — regardless of form — expand, embolden, or even challenge notions of storytelling beyond what is established or expected. Expect the programme to push cinematic boundaries, pointing us in unexpected directions. As in previous years, it is a place to find work that could be poetic, bold, or challenging, but that is always passionate.”

In the selection, women’s voices are predominant as 54% of the films are directed by female filmmakers, while Chiara Malta’s fiction debut Simple Women [+lee también:

ficha de la película] will open the programme. The European presence is also impressive, as 54% of the selected titles (20 films) are either European productions or co-productions, the majority of them having their world premiere at TIFF.
