The 12th edition of the Fest Anča International Animation Festival (27-30 June) will be presenting Slovakian animations across two sections. While selected domestic films will be competing in one sidebar – including Fifi Fatale by Mária Kralovič, I Am Not Playing Anymore by Matej Babic, A Date by Michaela Mihalyo and The Kite, a puppet film by Martin Smatana that has won a string of international awards – Slovak Panorama will offer an overview of recent Slovakian animation. The latter section will present animated movies such as Katarína Krajčiová’s Housing-Estate Dream, Szilard Kardiak’s Bored on Retirement, Norbert Neuschl’s Born Free and Daniela Krajčová’s Persona Grata.

The top prize, the Anča Award, will eventually go to one of the 27 international short animated films (of under 30 minutes) that were picked from among the 1,200 submissions. The competition line-up includes Cold Pudding Settles Love by Urszula Palusińska, Fábián Balogh’s Our House, Roberto Catani’s For Life and Boris Labbé’s The Fall, among others. The Anča Music Video Award will be handed to the best animated music video in another competition section, while a Special Award will also be dedicated to the best international animated film for kids.

The gathering will be introducing a number of feature-length animated efforts, including Nina Paley’s animated musical Seder-Masochism, Rémi Chayé’s thrilling adventure Long Way North [+lee también:

and Steven McInerney’s meditation on the ever-expanding fractal universe, A Creak in Time. The 12th edition of Fest Anča will welcome British animator of Czech descent Vera Neubauer, who has won two BAFTAs for her films and will have a retrospective dedicated to her at the festival. British writer and animator Candy Guard will be heading to the event to hold a master class, while 11 of her short films will be screened alongside a selection of episodes from her animated sitcom Pond Life. A retrospective will also serve to honour another guest hailing from the UK, Tim Webb, who directed the multi-award-winning film A is for Autism.

The festival’s full line-up is available here.

The 12th edition of Fest Anča runs from 27-30 June in Žilina, Slovakia.
