Despite a rhapsody winning the main award at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, some might call the evening more of a requiem for cinema. The prizes, handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association last night in Los Angeles, were awarded to titles that have been undoubtedly popular this year, even if they weren’t particularly adored by critics. , baffled those who were already perplexed by its nomination for Best Motion Picture – Drama, but was celebrated by audience members, who contributed to the film reaching the top spot in the 2018 box office rankings. The UK-US co-production, directed by Bryan Singer during a troubled production, received the night’s most important prize, as well as the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for lead actor Rami Malek.

The European presence in the awards list is rounded off by a mere two additional wins. The American actress Glenn Close won the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her turn in The Wife [+lee también:

The Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language category, usually a European domain, saw the award go to Alfonso Cuarón’s juggernaut Roma, the Golden Lion winner at Venice, for which he also won the Best Director award. Another international film festival victor (at Toronto International Film Festival), Peter Farrelly’s Green Book, received three awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
