The 9^th edition of Bif&st - Bari International Film Festival ended with a very long standing ovation for Bernardo Bertolucci last Saturday, after a week of screenings, meetings and tributes. The great filmmaker received the Fellini Award for Cinematic Excellence from his colleague and fellow Oscar-winner Giuseppe Tornatore, before the world premiere of a new version of his cult film Last Tango in Paris, which has been restored by the National Film Library of the Experimental Cinematography Centre, and is showing in cinemas on 21, 22 and 23 May. The restoration was completed by Bertolucci’s very own director of photography, Vittorio Storaro, who also received an award for cinematic excellence at Bari.

As for the international panorama section, a jury of 30 viewers presided over by the writer and screenwriter Gianrico Carofiglio awarded the prize for Best Director to Robert Schwentke for The Captain [+lee también:

As for the first and second films section, a jury of 30 viewers presided over by the writer and screenwriter Giancarlo De Cataldo, chose to give the Best Director award to Paola Randi for Little Tito and the Aliens [+lee también:

ficha de la película], "a fresh, exciting and sometimes brilliant film." The film also scooped up the Best Actor award for Valerio Mastandrea’s performance and "his young and peaceful irony." Two actresses ended up winning the Best Actress award in this section this year: Valeria Golino and Alba Rohrwacher in Daughter of Mine [+lee también:

And with that, Bif&st 2018 came to a successful close, recording an attendance of 75,000 viewers. The next edition of Bari International Film Festival will be held from 27 April to 4 May 2019.
