The film shows the fascination Salvador Dalí always had for Millet's painting The Angelus, which led him to write an essay entitled The Tragic Myth of the Angelus, published in 1963. Based on this premise, the film delves into the intriguing and mysterious painter through his years researching the origins of the painting, which concealed a dark and tragic secret.

The plot of the film tells the story of how, while organising a surprise birthday party for one of his friends - a spectacle typical of the 1960s, with swans, dancers and music by Rimsky Korsakov - Dalí is visited by a journalist who wants to interview him about one of the most intriguing periods of his life: the sudden reappearance of an essay that the painter had written more than 20 years earlier and which had been lost when he fled from France, after the Nazis invaded.

According to Charansonnet, "this film fulfils a dream I have been pursuing for years: playing the role of the Empordà genius is one of the most exciting challenges of my career and, at the same time, an honour and a great responsibility. In El caso Ángelus, la fascinación de Dalí we try to humanise the figure of one of the most universal personalities in our history, without forgetting his eccentricities".

His reinterpretation of the Cadaqués genius joins other recent interpretations including Esperando a Dalí, a film by David Pujol that is yet to be released (read news of the filming); that of Ben Kingsley and Ezra Miller (in his youth) in Dalíland, a film currently in post-production, directed by the Canadian Mary Harron; and Miss Dalí, by Ventura Pons; and other past films such as Dalí (1991), a biopic by Antoni Ribas, with Lorenzo Quinn bringing to life the unique artist with the distinctive moustache.

El caso Ángelus, la fascinación de Dalí is a film by Patchouli Films, with the associate production of Vivir Rodando and the participation of Thomas Spieker as co-producer. The locations where this film is being shot include Farinera Sant Lluís (Pont de Molins), Cadaqués, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Puig-Reig, Gironella, Llinars del Vallès, Rajadell and Barcelona.
