Five projects have been selected during the first 2022 session of the CNC’s third advance on receipts committee (for fourth feature films onwards).

Standing tall among them is The Plough [+see also:

, which will be the 28th fiction feature film by Philippe Garrel who has been selected to compete six times in Venice (scooping the Silver Lion in 1991 and 2005), once in Berlin (with The Salt of Tears [+see also:

in 2020), and once in Cannes (in 2008), as well as appearing a further five times in the latter’s Directors’ Fortnight sidebar (with In The Shadow of Women [+see also:

in 2017, to name just two). This latest opus of his will star his own three children for the very first time: Louis, Esther and Léna Garrel. Written by the director alongside Jean-Claude Carrière, Arlette Langmann and Caroline Deruas, the story charts the fantastic yet tragic destiny of three puppet artist siblings. The cast also stars Aurélien Recoing, Damien Mongin, Francine Bergé, Mathilde Weil and Asma Messaoudene. Steered by Rectangle Productions together with Swiss firm Close Up Films, the project is further supported by Arte France Cinéma.

An advance on receipts is also winging its way to Pourquoi tu souris by Chad Chenouga and Christine Paillard (who co-wrote her co-director’s two most recent opuses). This will be the former’s 4th feature film after Mes Fantômes (screened in Locarno’s Cinéastes du Présent section in 2001), Do It Right [+see also:
