Written by Anaïs Tellenne, the story (which won the filmmaker a place in Groupe Ouest’s 2019 Annual Selection) revolves around the character of Raphaël. Nearing sixty with a blind eye and an imposing physique, he’s well aware that people are afraid of him. He lives with his mother in a detached house located on a vast estate attached to the manor house of which he is the caretaker. He’s been leading a tranquil life since the owners passed away, but everything changes one night when their heir, Garance, returns to the family home… Production is steered by Diane Jassem and Céline Chapdaniel on behalf of Koro Films.

An advance on receipts will also be winging its way to Grand Ciel by Akihiro Hata (born in Japan, trained at La Fémis), a project which the director co-wrote with Jérémie Dubois, which spent time at the 2020 Angers Workshops and at the TorinoFilmLab, among other initiatives, and which is produced by Good Fortune Films.

The CNC will also be backing Jean-Gabriel Leynaud’s documentary project Le sang et la boue (co-written by François-Xavier Destors) and Hélène Harder’s documentary Fatna une femme nommée Rachid, which will unfold in Casablanca following in the footsteps of a 60-year-old woman and human rights activist who was once a political prisoner (with production entrusted to Wendigo Films).
