Dirty secrets, buried deep within the past lives of the local political elite, come back to haunt the town they have claimed as their own. Gintas is a retiring chief of police in an idyllic provincial town, and he is loved by the people, respected by friends and valued by his subordinates. He is also a member of a tight-knit group of local political elite, who have ruled the town for many years. The gruesome death of a district attorney, and Gintas’ best friend, comes just as he announces his candidacy for the post of the town’s mayor. The attorney general’s office sends in a special investigator, the young and ambitious Simonas, to investigate the case.

, the latest feature by Lithuanian filmmaker Emilis Vėlyvis, which is taking part and is world-premiering in the Baltic Competition of this year’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (12-28 November). Known for his distinctive style, Vėlyvis rose to prominence with his debut feature, Zero. Lilac Lithuania, while his third feature, the crime-thriller with black-comedy elements Redirected [+see also:

, sold almost 300,000 tickets in Lithuania and was sold worldwide in 60 territories. The lead cast of The Generation of Evil includes legendary Lithuanian film and theatre actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė and Vytautas Kaniušonis.

The Generation of Evil is being produced by Daiva Varnaitė–Jovaišienė and Asta Liukaitytė for Lithuanian outfit Kino Kultas, with the support of the Lithuanian Film Centre.
